Siddipet: Zilla Parishad Chairperson Veleti Roja Sharma said on Thursday that efforts were on to make Siddipet a hub for seed production in the State.
“The State government is making all the efforts to make agriculture much more lucrative for the farmers here and is supporting farmers in every way it can,” he said, addressing the Zilla Parishad General Body meeting here.
Stating that the incessant rains in the State had damaged crops to a huge extent, Roja Sharma said Agriculture and Horticulture department officials have prepared a report on the crop loss which has been forwarded to Finance Minister T Harish Rao.
Assuring all help to farmers who lost their crops in the heavy rains, Sharma said the State government introduced regulatory farming for the first time in the country with the sole objective of making agriculture profitable.
The ZP chairperson appealed to the farmers not to take up cultivation of maize even during Yasangi crop season since it was not in demand. “The government has advised farmers against taking up maize cultivation in Vanakalam, and most farmers had heeded the advice,” she said, adding that some farmers in the district had cultivated maize and the government had set up procurement centres to purchase them.
The Chairperson also asked agriculture officials to initiate steps to issue Rythu Bandhu assistance to farmers who did not get the benefit so far.
District Collector Bharathi Hollikeri, MLCs Farooq Hussian, Ragotham Reddy and others were present.
