Hyderabad: The Department of Film Studies at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in association with the Department of English, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, conducted an international webinar on the topic ‘South Asia in Alternative Cinema(s)’ on October 31 and November 1.
The keynote speaker Prof Moinak Biswas from Department of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, delivered a talk on ‘Thinking with Cinema: Mani Kaul Reading Deleuze’. He discussed the philosophical foundations of Indian new wave cinema with a special reference to Mani Kaul’s cinema.
Plenary speaker, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University former Vice-Chancellor, Prof Anup Singh Beniwal discussed the cinematic interpretations of partition while Prof Somdatta Mandal, gave a talk on ‘Opening Up: Locating Queer Cinema in India’ in the valedictory session. Apart from talks by eminent speakers, 40 scholars from Europe, USA, and a few South Asian countries presented findings of their research.
