Hyderabad: Eight persons were injured, with one of them critical, after a lift crashed from the fourth floor to the ground floor in an apartment building at Hanuman Nagar in Meerpet on Saturday.

The victims were visiting the apartment to inspect a flat that was up for sale. The group, led by retired Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Judicial Department, Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy, had arrived along with relatives through estate agent Dileep Kumar to check Flat No 501.

According to the police, after inspecting the fifth-floor flat, all eight occupants boarded the lift to return to the ground floor. While descending, the lift reportedly came to a sudden halt near the fourth floor before crashing straight down to the ground floor, leaving all those inside injured.

The injured were rushed to a private hospital in LB Nagar for treatment. Doctors said one of the victims is in critical condition, while the remaining seven suffered injuries in various parts of the body.

The Meerpet police reached the spot and took up investigation. They are investigating whether the accident was caused by poor lift maintenance or a technical malfunction.
