Eight traders held in Khammam for selling unlicensed chilli seeds

Khammam: Police busted a racket selling unlicensed companies’ chilli seeds and arrested eight traders, besides seizing Rs 16 lakh worth chilli seeds from different traders in erstwhile Khammam district.

Commissioner of Police (CP), Vishnu S Warrier told media persons here on Monday that a raid was conducted on June 1 jointly by police and agriculture officials at Enkoor in the district. A trader, Kushinni Rosaiah of Enkoor was arrested for selling chilli seeds without bills.


Based on the information given by Rosaiah, police arrested Farmson Seeds India Pvt. Ltd., director Pallapothu Ravi Kumar, a resident of Khammam, at Enkoor. He confessed to the police that the company MD, G Chandrashekar of Davanagere in Karnataka State was the key man in the sale of unlicensed seeds and revealed the names of the dealers in erstwhile Khammam.

Following that the police and agriculture officials have conducted raids on shops selling the above company seeds in Khammam and Kothagudem districts. A total of 2550 seeds packets of the company sold with the names DS Red Star, Deccan Hot, DS-556 and DS Kadamba were seized.

The following traders were arrested during the raids; Guguloth Murali of Manchukonda, Bhukya Kishore of Ramkya thanda, Padala Srinivasa Rao of Tallada and Kunuku Srinivas of Kalvoddu area in Khammam district, Adapa Suresh of Julurpad and Rangisetti Mukesh of Chandrygonda in Kothagudem district.

Farmson Seeds India Pvt. Ltd., MD, Chandrashekar was absconding, the CP said. He appreciated Kallur ACP, Venkatesh, Task Force ACP, Ramanujam, CIs, Venumadhav, Karunakar, SI, Srikanth, constables Venkateshwara Das, Bhaskar and others for nabbing the accused. CP Warrier appealed to the farmers not to buy unlicensed seeds and seeds sold without bills. He urged the farmers to alert the police if they found anyone selling fake or unlicensed seeds.
