Eight-year-old Jetoth Vihanram from Siddipet scales Mount Patalsu

Jetoth Vihanram, a resident of Hanuma Thanda in Dhoolmitta mandal, easily reached the summit, while 20 out of 42 members of a Telangana expedition team were unable to conquer Mount Patalsu.

Siddipet: When 20 of 42 members of an expedition team from Telangana could not conquer Mount Patalsu, an eight-year-old boy from Siddipet reached the summit with ease, leaving everyone surprised.

The boy, Jetoth Vihanram, a native of Hanuma Thanda in Dhoolmitta mandal, was staying in Karimnagar town. Since his father Jetoth Tirupathi Nayak was working as an Excise constable in Karimnagar, Vihan was also studying Class 4 in the town.


Nayak’s colleague Lenkala Mahipal Reddy, a well-known mountaineer, was imparting mountaineering training to some 42 youngsters, who were aspiring for different jobs in the Indian Army. After watching the youths training every day, Vihan also expressed his liking for mountaineering and decided to join the expedition team without much training.

After three days of brief training at Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Vihan along with the 42 others went on an expedition. Though 20 of them, who were aged between 18 and 20 years, aborted their expedition mid-way, Vihan went on to complete it without any issues on October 7.

Mahipal Reddy’s son Dharma Teja (12), the second youngest member of the team, also conquered the 14,500-ft high peak. The expedition team also displayed a “Say No to Drugs” banner, supporting the Telangana Police‘s campaign against the use of drugs.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Mahipal Reddy hailed Vihan saying he had a great future in mountaineering. Reddy said Vihan would do miracles in mountaineering for Telangana in the days to come. Vihan’s father Tirupathi Nayak said they were preparing to take Vihan to Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest peak in the African continent, shortly.
