Eight years on, incomplete Uppal-Narapally flyover triggers meme fest
An 8-year delay in completing Hyderabad's Uppal-Narapally flyover has sparked a viral meme fest on X. Netizens flooded social media with satirical posts criticizing the sluggish project following PM Modi's announcement of new highway expansions in Telangana
Hyderabad: An inordinate delay in completing the Uppal-Narapally flyover has triggered a meme fest on social media platforms, with memelords mocking the project that remained pending for the last eight years.
In a move to decongest Uppal and other adjoining areas besides easing traffic towards Warangal, an 8 km Uppal-Narapally flyover project had been launched by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in 2018. Initially, three-year deadline was fixed for completing the project, which faced issues, including land acquisition
Latest trigger for the meme fest on the X (formerly Twitter) platform was the Central government’s recent announcement of widening National Highways 63 and 563 to four-lane in Telangana.
“Boost to basic infrastructure in Telangana! The union Cabinet has approved the expansion of key national highway routes connecting Armoor, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar in Telangana. This will not only improve connectivity but also reduce travel time and traffic congestion. It will also provide a boost to economic activities,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s post, an X user @T_Cockroach, with a graphic video tracing the incomplete flyover’s journey from present day back to India’s independence era and even Jurassic period, posted “If the #UppalFlyover is also completed as part of the work, along with improved connectivity, travel time and traffic congestion will decrease. It will also provide a boost to economic activities,”
Another user @Ncoder11, with a graphical image showing incomplete Uppal flyover in 2100, posted “Meanwhile your Uppal flyover work started in 2018 still no progress? What is your answer sir”.
Commenting on the Prime Minister’s post, @perellikishore9 said “Uppal flyover laughing from corner”, while another user @bassaykapil posted “Let the quality not be like “Ganga Expressway”. When will the Uppal flyover be completed? Unfortunate that a PM is making announcements of MPs stature”.
Some users sought funds from the Prime Minister to complete the works. “Give some damn funds for that Uppal flyover Sir….that has been sitting for ages….. Projected to be completed in 2100,” read a post by @vivid_vishal.
