Adilabad: Elaborate arrangements have been made for the maiden tour of Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to Adilabad district slated for Monday.
Soundararajan will initially visit the ancient Nagoba temple at Keslapur village in Indervelli mandal and then participate in a darbar or grievance redressal programme in view of 146th birth anniversary of tribal legend Birsa Munda, for the first time. She will be accompanied by member of National Commission for STs, Anantha Naik.
District Collector Sikta Patnaik along with in-charge Superintendent of Police M Rajesh Chandra inspected the arrangements for the programme here on Sunday. They instructed the officials concerned to keep the premises clean and paint the statue of tribal legend Kumram Bheem. They also inquired about the prayers to be performed by the Governor at the ancient temple.
Later, the officials inspected a helipad constructed on the premises of Kumram Bheem Complex in Utnoor mandal centre. They directed the authorities of ITDA to maintain the guest house where the Governor would stay, tidy. They told the officials of the agency to make the tour a success and to avoid inconvenience to the Governor.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan is the fifth Governor to visit Adilabad in the history of the district. Earlier in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the previous Governors Khandubhai Kasanji Desai visited the erstwhile Adilabad district in 1970, Sharda Mukherji in 1977, Kumudben Joshi in 1988 and ESL Narasimhan in 2010.
ITDA Project Officer Ankith, Utnoor Revenue Divisional Officer Rajeshwar, Additional SPs Vinod Kumar, Vishnuvardhan, Adilabad DSP Venkateshwarlu, District Tribal Welfare Officer Sandhyarani and many other officials were present.
A native of Ulihathu village in Khunti district of Jharkhand State, Birsa Munda is a heroic figure for waging a war against British rulers. He had fought for the rights of the tribal people over water, forest and land besides struggling for Independence to the country. He is regarded as a legendary personality by tribals of the erstwhile Adilabad district.
Meanwhile, the tribal organisations are planning to mobilise a large number of ethnic tribes to the event. Thudum Debba, one of the tribal organisations, has already requested ethnic tribes to make the event a big hit by participating in large numbers. It sought elders of the community, Rai Centres or village advisory councils, tribal rights organisation leaders, elected representatives and headmen of villages to be present at the programme.
