Biyyala Rajaiah and Mallamma, both paralysis patients, were abandoned by their elder son Mallesh recently
Mancherial: In an inhumane incident, an elderly couple died of starvation after reportedly being abandoned by their son at Pathakommugudem in Luxettipet mandal on Saturday. Their son, however, alleged that harassment of relatives of his sister-in-law led to the death of his parents.
Luxettipet Inspector D Narayana said that Biyyala Rajaiah (70) and Mallamma (65), a farmer couple belonging to Pathakommugudem, were paralysis patients. They were found dead under suspicious circumstances in their house. They were starved for around a week and were dehydrated, resulting in their death. Their neighbours alerted police after foul smell started emanating from the house. The couple was undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with paralysis for the past few years.
It was learned that the elderly couple was abandoned by their elder son Mallesh, who left them and migrated to a neighbouring village recently. Their younger son Ravi committed suicide following land dispute between him and his brother on April 29 last. The couple was apparently neglected by their family members and had none to take care for them.
Mancherial Assistant Commissioner of Police Akhil Mahajan visited the home of the deceased and inquired the neighbours about them.
Meanwhile, Mallesh alleged that harassment of Ravi’s wife Swapna and her family members forced him to abandon his parents resulting in their death. He charged that Swapna’s relatives Motapalkula Venkatesh, Chimmula Venkataswamy, Embadi Bujji assaulted and abused his parents for around 20 days. He accused them of starving the couple.
Based on his complaint, a case of suspicious death was registered. Investigations were taken up.
