Elderly woman held in Hyderabad with illicit liquor

Hyderabad: A 70 year-old woman who was in possession of around 200 sachets of illicitly distilled liquor at Sithaphalmandi on Saturday was arrested by the city police.

The woman, S Chakravarthi (70), lives at Ravindranagar in Sithaphalmandi under Osmania University police station limits. “On information we raided the house and seized 195 sachets of gudamba. A case is booked,” said Anil Kumar Reddy, sub inspector, Osmania University police station.

The police are trying to get more information about the source of the liquor. “The woman is elderly and is saying that some unknown person handed it over to her while she was standing in front of the house for which she paid some money,” the sub inspector added.

The police are verifying the closed circuit cameras installed in the area to identify the person who handed over the liquor sachets.
