Hyderabad: An electrical engineer and a hotel businessman were among four persons who were arrested by the Prohibition and Excise department for possessing marijuana.

The arrested were identified as Dina Bandhu Dash alias Sravan (27), an electrical engineer and resident of Kondapur, Neelam Akash Raj (23), a student and resident of Madhapur, Prahalad Gupta (24), a hotel businessman and resident of Gachibowli and Ritik Padhiar (38), a cook and resident of Jubilee Hills.

Excise Superintendent (Enforcement) N Anjireddy said 13 kg of marijuana, two bikes and four mobile phones were seized from the possession of the arrested person.

Anjireddy said Raju of Bhuvaneshwar in Odisha brought 15 kgs of marijuana from Odisha and handed over to Ritik Padhiar for Rs.5,000 per kg. Ratik Padhiar and his friend Deena Bandhu hatched a plan to sell the contraband to the needy customers at Jubilee Hills, Madhapur and Gachibowli at wholesale price of Rs.10,000 per kg.

They planned to make easy money since the contraband was not available easily these days because of constant surveillance on sellers and consumers by the enforcement agencies in Hyderabad. They then contacted old marijuana sellers known to them and offered to sell it.

Accordingly, they approached a narcotics seller Mahamooda of Hafeezpet and sold two kgs marijuana to her. The gang also struck a deal with Prahlad Gupta and Akash Raj to sell the contraband for Rs.10,000 a kg. Anjireddy said Dina Bandhu, Askash Raj, Prahalad Gupta and Ritik Padhiar were caught while transporting the stock. A hunt is on to nab Mahamooda and Raju.
