Embrace the trend with a new hope

As we (thankfully) bid adieu to 2020 and welcome 2021 with optimism, renewed hope and energy, change is on the horizon. Like every year, our homes need a refresh too, more so than ever. After being cooped up inside the four walls for almost a year now, most of us would like a décor tweak, a paint job or may even go for total makeover.
The lockdown has changed the role of homes — it is no longer a place where one lives, but also work, exercise and even spend holidays and people are wanting to create homes that reflects this. It should be contemporary and stylish yet simple and comfortable.
“The pandemic has also created an awareness among people on the using natural products, reducing waste and cutting down pollution; people are finally waking up to the need of the hour and buying indigenous products,” said Abhinayah Sundaramoorthy – co-founder, The Yellow Dwelling.
Colours
Pantone has announced ‘PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray’ and ‘PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating’ as the 2021 ‘Pantone Colour of the Year.’ The two independent colours are brought together to create an inspiring colour pairing, that combines a deeper feeling of grounding with a ray of hope of sunshine filled days. We believe the Ultimate Gray provides the perfect canvas to highlight the joyous Illuminating yellows around us. Use yellow as accents to uplift a dark and brooding space.
To illuminate is to bring light, cheer, joy, happiness and positivity. Yet every colour has a Ying to its Yang and that’s what Ultimate Gray provides here. It balances the yellow complimenting it while doing so. To help you visualize this balance, picture a yellow accent cushion on a grey couch or yellow placemats against a grey table cloth, a lovely pairing of neutrality and vibrancy.
In the other spectrum, warm and earthy tones will also be preferred to create tranquil personal spaces with the working and studying from home trend anticipated to continue in 2021.
Design Trends
Tropical/ Botanical Prints are evergreen. Nature never goes out of style. Botanical prints help bring the outdoors back into your homes without the added bugs, ha! Plants have been statistically said to improve productivity so why not try introducing some of those patterns into your workspace? Nevertheless, botanicals make a home feel safe and more importantly exude warmth and comfort into your living spaces.
Geometric and Organic patterns
Yes, we realize this is an oxymoron but don’t opposites attract? Very similar on our theory of why Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow have been chosen as the Pantone Colours of the year 2021, juxtaposing designs is a trend quickly making its way to the top. These two works beautifully in a mid-century modern space as well as the free-spirited nature of the boho décor style.
Material
When decorating a home, we look for colour and pattern but often forget the intrinsic value added by material itself. In the new post pandemic era, natural and eco-friendly fibres will be preferred more. Furnishing products made using natural fibers such as cotton, jute, cane, banana fiber, grass will gain more popularity in 2021. These natural materials are characteristically tactile in nature and help provide a texture – a new dimension to your living spaces. This is why we believe natural materials will continue to play an important role in the interior trends moving forward.
