Khammam: Emphasis was being laid on the expansion of sports infrastructure in Khammam district to promote sports and games, said Sports and Youth Services Minister V Srinivas Goud.
He along with Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar inaugurated an indoor stadium constructed by Telangana State Sports Authority (TSSA) with an expenditure of Rs 89 lakh at Wyra in the district on Sunday.
The Ministers also launched a boating unit developed by Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) at Wyra reservoir at a cost of Rs 13 lakh. They commissioned two six-seat capacity speed boats and took a boat ride in the reservoir.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Srinivas Goud lauded the efforts being made by Minister Ajay Kumar towards tourism development in Khammam city as well as the district with the State government’s support. Following the directions from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, technical teams have been making field level study based on which tourist spots were being developed across the State.
“Wyra reservoir would be developed as a prominent tourist destination in the State. A 50-seater boats would be launched at Wyra soon,” Srinivas Goud revealed. Substantial growth has been achieved in terms of sports infrastructure development in Telangana after formation of a separate State and sportspersons from the State were excelling at national and international level sports events, he added.
A large-scale development of sports facilities has taken place in Khammam city in recent times and sports infrastructure at Assembly constituency headquarters was also being developed, Minister Ajay Kumar stated.
Earlier in the day Ajay Kumar inspected works of the new building of Khammam Municipal Corporation being built at a cost of Rs 21 crore at Gattaiah Centre in Khammam. The building would be inaugurated by IT Minister KT Rama Rao after the budget session of the State Assembly was over.
Wyra MLA L Ramulu Naik, MLC T Madhusudhan, Seeds Corporation Chairman K Koteshwar Rao, Markfed Vice Chairman B Rajashekar, DCC Bank Chairman K Nagabhushnam, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, District Collector VP Gautham and others were present.
