Mancherial: Police solved the mystery behind the burglary of 67 tolas of gold, 1 kg of silver ornaments and cash worth Rs 1.50 lakh from the house of a retired SCCL employee at Gouthaminagar with the arrest of two persons, including an engineering student. They seized 311 grams of gold and 1 kg of silver ornaments from the accused.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, DCP A Bhaskar said Ashish Srinivas, a private employee, and Reddimalla Akash, a mining engineering student, both residents of Chandrapur, were nabbed for their involvement in the theft at the house of Mudam Nagaiah on April 22. They were detained while moving suspiciously at the Mancherial bus stand.
During interrogation, Srinivas and Akash confessed to getting accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle. They admitted to pledging gold ornaments for Rs 6.76 lakh. They spent the money lavishly and on online betting. They also confessed to targeting locked houses in different towns of Telangana.
Police said the two were found to be involved in 12 offences reported in Nagpur and Chandrapur in Maharashtra. A special team managed to nab them using technology, footage recorded on CCTV cameras and clues gathered from the crime scene. Bhaskar commended Mancherial ACP R Prakesh and Inspector S Pramod Rao for cracking the mystery behind the sensational burglary.
