Karimnagar: All entry points to Karimnagar District Collectorate office where several employees have tested positive for Covid in the second wave have been closed. The employees’ family members too have tested positive for the virus.
Several gram panchayats imposed self-lockdown in the wake of spurt in Covid-19 cases in their villages. Not only villages, lockdowns have also been imposed in a few mandal headquarters as well as municipalities in erstwhile Karimnagar district.
Following the spurt in number of cases every day, the Collectorate officials closed all entry points of the office. Besides the main door, two other entry points have also been closed.
Employees working in various departments as well as visitors were allowed into the office only through RDO office entry point.
Based on the Collector’s instructions, all entry points of the office were closed. Many people having no work in the Collectorate office used to enter the office and move in the corridors of the building causing the spread of the virus.
Many employees as well as their family members were infected by the virus. While some of them were in home isolation, a few were undergoing treatment in isolation centres.
Hence, officials have restricted the entry of people into the office to check the spread of the virus, a Collectorate employee said.
As many as 300 employees working in various government offices located in the district headquarters were infected by the virus.
About 260 employees of Medical and Health Department have tested positive. Of them, three succumbed to the virus. Two Karimnagar Municipal Corporation employees, including an assistant engineer and bill collector, also died of coronavirus recently.
