Equirus, an investment banker, which provides portfolio management services, wealth management, debt capital markets and corporate insurance broking, is seeing growth opportunities across segments and uptake in the last one year. Vijay Agrawal, ED, Equirus tells YV Phani Raj their company’s plans for Hyderabad and pan-India expansion in an exclusive interview. Excerpts-
Hyderabad market
Hyderabad has been a good market for Equirus. We are focusing on infrastructure, real estate, healthcare, consumer, and industrial verticals here. We have a dedicated team that focuses on the entire southern market. In the past, Equirus has engaged with the Telangana government for monetisation of Hyderabad Outer Ring Road. We are in touch with various banks and financial institutions for providing solutions to their various clients. We had also been involved in debt restructuring of a Hyderabad-based company.
Plans for Hyderabad
Equirus plans to expand wealth management, corporate insurance broking and debt capital market practice in Hyderabad. We are banking on capital markets to raise funds for companies from Hyderabad and Telangana region. We are focusing on the healthcare and renewable sectors in Telangana as growth practice. We would like to become a full advisory firm providing all types of advisory services related to the financial markets.
Investment banking
Investment banking has seen phenomenal growth over the last one year. The investor enthusiasm is at its peak. Equirus has closed multiple transactions in the last one year. Recently, we have closed a transaction for Thrissur Expressway. Capital markets are at their best and allowing companies to raise capital. In the last two months, we have closed five capital market transactions. This is one of the best years for the investment banking industry. We were book running lead managers for G R Infraprojects, Krsnaa Diagnostics, Rolex Rings, Minda Industries and IIFL Home Finance.
Focus segments
Equirus is focusing on infrastructure, real estate, BFSI, consumer, healthcare, industrial and chemicals. We have built franchises led by senior management in each business vertical. We also provide portfolio management services, wealth management, debt capital markets and corporate insurance broking. From a geographical perspective, Equirus is focused on Hyderabad, Bengaluru, NCR, Chennai, and Kolkata.
Capital market
Pan-India, we are looking for more capital market transactions. Equirus has been involved in over six capital market transactions in this calendar year. We are working on more than eight capital market transactions, which will be launched in this financial year. We are also working on multiple mergers & acquisitions across all industrial sectors.
