Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Sunday thanked Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for appreciating the State yet again for implementing Mission Bhagiratha effectively and providing piped drinking water to every household in the State, during the latter’s visit to Chhattisgarh recently.
However, he appealed to the Union Minister to release funds for Mission Bhagiratha programme rather than repeatedly praising Telangana for its achievement on various platforms. In a statement, Dayakar Rao said the State government had spent Rs 45,000 crore and supplying drinking water through tap connections at a rate of 100 litres per person in rural areas and 135-150 litres per person in urban areas through tap connections.
“Under Mission Bhagiratha, we are providing purified and fresh water to cent per cent population of the State as per the World Health Organization standards. We are ensuring that people receive fluoride-free water at their doorstep as well as made potable drinking water available even in remote villages in tribal and other backward areas,” he said. He hoped that the dream of the Union government to provide drinking water to every household will be realised soon.
Apart from Telangana, Goa too achieved cent per cent tap connections to every household, while Puducherry, Haryana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Gujarat took the other spots in that order. Dayakar Rao said Mission Bhagiratha has become a role model for all governments to emulate and the Centre had launched Jal Shakti scheme upon taking inspiration from Telangana’s scheme which has already received several awards in this regard.
