Errabelli to push for Sports Village in Warangal

Warangal: The sudden downpour on Sunday evening during the valedictory ceremony of the 60th National Open Athletics Championships (NOAC) -2021, failed to deter the enthusiasm of the participants of the event, thanks to the State government for making all arrangements.
Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Satyavathi Rathod, Government Chief Whip and Organising Committee chairman of the NOAC-2021, Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, and Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) Chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy handed over the trophies and medals to the winners of this prestigious event which was held from September 15 to 19.
More than 500 athletes from 23 States and other units like Railways and Services in the event that was held in a grand manner for the first time in a tier-2 city like Warangal.
Minister Dayakar Rao said that they would impress upon Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to set up a ‘Sports Village’ in Warangal in about fifty acres of the land for the benefit of the athletes and encourage the sports talent. Minister Satyavathi said that the State government would also take steps to organise the rural sports that were neglected in the past.
Meanwhile, MLA Vinay Bhaskar said that they were contemplating organising at least one big event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) since a synthetic track with Rs 7.50 crore was laid at the stadium, and also would make all efforts to make Warangal a ‘sports hub’. On the other hand, the cultural programmes organised at the valedictory ceremony has enthralled the audience.
While Praveen Chitravel Praveen Chitravel, a farm labourer’s son from Tamil Nadu, was adjudged as the best athlete in the men’s category as he scored 1151 points by clearing a distance of 16.88 m, young runner Harmilan Bains secured the best athlete title for breaking the long-standing national record in the women’s category in 1500m with a score of 1163 points in this National Open Athletics Championships-2021.
Meanwhile, Railway emerged as the overall champion of the NOAC-2021 by scoring 253.5 points, while the Services unit won the championship in men’s category with a score of 187.5 points, and Railways too won the championship in women’s category with 157 points.
MP Banda Prakash, Warangal Police Commisisoner Dr Tarun Joshi, Warangal District Athletics Association Errabelli Varada Rajeshwar Rao and others attended the programme.
