Adilabad: At least, five new Assembly constituencies and a Parliament segment are likely to be created in erstwhile Adilabad as part of the proposed delimitation to be taken by the Union government up in 2029. The new segments will change the face of politics if formed.
Telangana will see 50 percent rise in Assembly constituencies in addition to the existing 119 segments under the reorganization of the Assembly constituencies. Accordingly, the erstwhile Adilabad district, which currently has 10 segments, could add five more constituencies to its fold considering the population of the region calculated in 2011.
For instance, the undivided Adilabad district, populated by 7.08 lakh people, has two Assembly segments – Adilabad and Boath. It will likely have another segment comprising Indervelli, Narnoor, Jainoor, Sirikonda and Utnoor mandals. The headquarters of the constituency could either be Indervelli or Utnoor. Another segment is likely to be formed by merging Adilabad Rural, Thamsi, Bheempur, Thalamadugu, Jainath and a portion of Bela mandals.
Nirmal district, which presently accounts for 7.09 lakh population and three Assembly segments namely Nirmal, Khanapur and Mudhole, may have another segment. The new constituency will comprise Narsapur (G), Kuntala, Lokeshwaram and a portion of Sarangapur mandal.
Having three Assembly constituencies namely Mancherial, Chennur and Bellampalli, Mancherial district is populated by 8.07 lakh people. A new segment is expected to be carved out with Luxettipet as its headquarters. It is speculated that another Assembly constituency may be created by merging Mandamarri, Ramakrishnapur and some parts of Bellampalli segment.
Similarly, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, consisting of Asifabad and Sirpur (T) Assembly constituencies may see formation of another segment with Lingapur, Kerameri and Sirpur (U) mandals, while a new segment is predicted to be formed by merging Rebbena, Tiryani and Wankidi mandals. The district at present is populated by 5.15 lakh people.
Meanwhile, nine more Parliament segments may be carved out in addition to the existing 17 constituencies in Telangana. As part of this process, a new Parliament constituency is likely to be created with Mancherial as its headquarters. At present, Peddapalli and Adilabad Parliament segments share 10 Assembly constituencies of erstwhile Adilabad district.
Aspirants of various political parties expect that they would be able to get an opportunity if the new Assembly constituencies were formed under the reorganisation of the existing ones. People hope that their representation would go up drastically in the Legislative Assembly and their challenges might be addressed, besides getting additional funds from the Centre.
