Khammam: Religious harmony was the hallmark of Telangana and every religion is given equal importance by the State government, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said on Wednesday.

The Minister was speaking after distributing new clothes as Christmas gifts to poor Christians offered by the government at Tabernacle Church at Sahakara Nagar here. India as well as Telangana are known for religious harmony and brotherhood, he said.

Since the formation of separate Telangana the TRS government has been treating all religions equally and gifting new clothes to poor families. “Jesus Christ came to this world to save us, to change the human disposition and not for religious conversion,” he said.

“The way shown by Jesus Christ to attain peace and love should be followed. Christmas is a festival which the whole world celebrates,” Ajay Kumar said, and wished every Christian to celebrate the festival in a happy manner.

District Collector VP Gautham said the government in addition to gifting clothes has also been hosting dinner for the community members for the past few years. The government objective was that the citizens in the State should celebrate their festivals with joy and pleasure.

Mayor P Neeraja, her deputy Fatima Zohara, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, MLC B Lakshminarayana, Municipal Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi, , District Minority Welfare Officer Jyothi, CSI Church president John Kantha Rao, pastors Seshu Babu, Lazarus, B Suresh and others were present.

Earlier in the day, Ajay Kumar laid foundation stone for CC roads and drains works worth Rs 50 lakh in the fourth division in the city. He directed the engineering officials to complete the works in stipulated time and ensure quality in the works.
