Khammam: Former Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar on Tuesday said it was shameful that Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who had gone on an 11-day hunger strike after the formation of Telangana, now wanted to undertake the ‘reconstruction’ of the State.
Ajay Kumar said Pawan Kalyan’s remarks reflected the destruction allegedly caused over the past two years under the Congress government in Telangana and that the ruling party should feel ashamed of the situation. He also said it was unfortunate that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who had once pointed a rifle at Telangana statehood activists, was now paying tributes to the martyrs.
Addressing BRS leaders and workers during Telangana Formation Day celebrations here on Tuesday, Ajay Kumar noted that anti-Telangana forces, now part of the Congress party, had in the past conspired to suppress the Telangana movement.
However, he said BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao had repeatedly sacrificed political positions to fulfil the aspirations of Telangana and that the movement gained momentum as people from all walks of life joined him in the struggle.
After the formation of Telangana, Chandrashekhar Rao’s administration took several progressive decisions to steer the State on the path of development. He alleged that the Congress party had deceived the public by failing to fulfil its promises and had damaged the development achieved during the previous BRS regime.
Ajay Kumar said Maharashtra Chief Minister’s refusal to grant an appointment to Revanth Reddy reflected the latter’s political standing. He said Chandrashekhar Rao had built the Kaleshwaram project after discussions with the then Maharashtra Chief Minister, and alleged that the Congress party was harming Telangana’s interests through its campaign against the project.
The BRS flag would fly high over the Khammam Municipal Corporation in the upcoming elections, he said. Opportunities would be provided to youth and those who actively participated in the Telangana statehood movement during the corporation elections, Ajay Kumar added.
Former MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and party leaders Pagadala Nagaraju, Gundala Krishna, Khamar, Bachu Vijay Kumar, Uppala Venkata Ramana, Bommera Ramamurthy and others were present.
