Adilabad: Former Minister Jogu Ramanna demanded district authorities to take steps to initiate a probe into alleged irregularities occurring in procurement of cotton. He addressed media persons here on Thursday.
Ramanna said that the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) procured around 25 lakh quintals of cotton so far. He alleged that large-scale corruption took place in the procurement of the cotton. He wondered what had prompted the government to suspend secretaries from the marketing department.
He wanted the district collector to lay a special focus on the issue and to inquire into the allegations and take action against wrongdoers.
The former Adilabad MLA recalled that no such blatant allegations levelled against the official during the regime of the BRS. He said that eyebrows were raised over the role of officials in the irregularities.
He charged that the cotton was procured in the name of tenant farmers belonging to neighbouring districts and Maharashtra.
