Khammam: Former BRS MP Nama Nageswara Rao has welcomed the High Court verdict on the Justice PC Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram project. He endorsed the High Court’s observations directing that no action be initiated based on the report submitted by the Justice PC Ghose Commission. The court’s clarification affirming that established norms were not adhered to in the Commission’s proceedings was a significant development.

In a statement here on Wednesday, Nageswara Rao reiterated that Kaleshwaram stands as the largest lift irrigation scheme in the world and that the issuance of notices to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and former Minister T Harish Rao was merely an act of political vendetta.

The project, a source of national pride and a lifeline of Telangana, has not only strengthened the agricultural sector by providing irrigation to arid lands but has also quenched the thirst of the people. The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme secured all necessary clearances from the Central government and set new benchmarks within India’s irrigation sector, he noted.

The former MP stated that he had highlighted the significance of the project on multiple occasions during the 17th Lok Sabha, emphasising the need to accord it ‘National Project’ status and allocate the requisite funds.

He said that whenever he spoke about the Kaleshwaram project in the Lok Sabha, it received support transcending party lines. Politicising such a monumental project was inappropriate. The project provided irrigation, drinking water and water for industry, besides increasing groundwater levels.

Nageswara Rao made it clear that the public would not tolerate attempts or conspiracies aimed at undermining the development achieved by the State under the administration of Chandrashekhar Rao and the Kaleshwaram project, which has alleviated the hardships faced by farmers.
