Hanamkonda: Former minister Konda Surekha’s former OSD Narla Sumanth’s father attempted suicide in Warangal, reportedly distressed by the Congress government’s alleged vindictive attitude towards his son, while the ex-OSD’s wife alleged that her husband was falsely booked in an extortion case by the police.
According to sources, Sumanth’s father, Narla Subrahmanyeswara Rao, attempted suicide by consuming a large number of sleeping pills late on Thursday night at his house in Ramnagar in Hanamkonda. His family members rushed him to a private hospital in Warangal.
As his condition was critical, doctors placed him on a ventilator and he was being treated in the ICU. Subrahmanyeswara Rao, a former employee of TGNPDCL, had taken voluntary retirement six months before his scheduled retirement date.
Dr Manisha
Meanwhile, Sumanth’s wife, Dr Manisha, released a video message to the media on Friday, alleging that Sumanth was falsely booked in an extortion case and was being harassed by the police along with his family members.
She requested the media to report only the facts related to the case. She said that, unable to bear the pressure, her father-in-law had attempted to end his life by consuming 60 alprazolam tablets and was battling for his life. She described the incident as a breaking point for the entire family.
Dr Manisha stated that Sumanth was an IIM graduate who chose to work as an officer on special duty (OSD) for Surekha in view of his long-term relationship with her family, while turning down opportunities in the corporate sector, and that his life had now been ruined.
Since the case was registered against Sumanth, the police had taken around 20 to 30 acquaintances of the family for questioning, tortured them and allegedly beaten some of them while pressuring them to reveal Sumanth’s whereabouts, she alleged.
Due to political reasons, he was suspended from his OSD post and later entered into business. But the police arrested him to put him under pressure even though there were no cases registered against Sumanth, she alleged.
