Hyderabad: Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar here on Monday asked officials to examine applications pertaining to Telangana Overseas Scholarship Scheme (TOSS) on humanitarian grounds and render justice to eligible persons to avail the scheme.
Participating in a meeting conducted with senior officials to review various schemes being implemented for the welfare of SCs, he said that the State government was giving Rs 20 lakh to the eligible persons to pursue education abroad under the scheme.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao introduced the scholarship scheme to help poor students from all communities pursue higher education abroad, he said. He instructed officials to improve amenities in social welfare hostels and added that water heaters, cold storages and smart television sets using solar power plants should be provided in the hostels being run in government buildings. He asked the officials to take necessary steps to start study circles in all districts in addition to the existing 12 such facilities.
