Nizambad: A truck driver allegedly exposed an Excise constable for demanding a bribe at the Salabathpur checkpost in Madnur mandal of Kamareddy district, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The truck, driven by a Rajasthan native, was passing through the Salabathpur checkpost on Wednesday when Excise constable Sudhakar Reddy allegedly stopped it and demanded money in the guise of excise charges.
The incident was recorded by a YouTuber travelling in the truck, who later uploaded the video on social media. The footage was widely shared across platforms. In the video, the truck driver alleged that the constable demanded Rs.200 to allow the vehicle to pass through the checkpost.
The Prohibition and Excise department operates checkposts to detect and prevent the illegal transportation of liquor, ganja (cannabis) and other banned narcotic substances across inter-State borders.
After the video went viral, Kamareddy Prohibition and Excise Superintendent Mukunda Reddy ordered an inquiry into the incident.
In a statement, he said a report had been submitted to higher authorities recommending the suspension of Constable Sudhakar Reddy.
He added that a full-fledged departmental inquiry was underway and its findings would be submitted to the Karimnagar District Prohibition and Excise Officer, who is the nodal officer for the case.
