Same-sex relationships until a few years ago were considered to be taboo and even a crime in some areas. But thanks to the unending attempt to educate the society about the spectrum of gender beyond just female and male, the society has now, if not openly, accepted the uniqueness in each other.
Talking further about same-sex relationships, Bollywood has also in recent times made a similar attempt to deliver a message to society. With films like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and the recent Ajeeb Daastaans, the entertainment industry has talked about how normal it is to love a person of the same sex.
Adding to this list is the upcoming same-sex series His Storyy which sees Satyadeep Mishra and Mrinal Dutt play gay characters. Talking further about the series and his character, Mrinal Dutt who was previously seen in OTT projects like Upstart, Pawan and Pooja and Hello Mini, shares his message to the queer ones out there with Hyderabad Today.
“The story revolves around how a man who is married and is considered to be a perfect husband and father has a secret buried under. And that secret is that he is actually, a homosexual and is in love with a man, in love with me,” shares Mrinal.
On what inspired him to take up the role, the actor who now has created his own mark in the digital space, shares, “As an actor you’re always excited to take up challenging roles, roles that make you uncomfortable and is totally away from who you actually are. Also, the prime reason I chose it was my trust on the makers who I knew were doing the project with utmost care and sensitivity and I liked the way they worked.”
Adding about the subject of queer representation, the actor finds it really necessary to talk about them, build a society where there is space for everybody, and for every gender to be looked upon sensitively.
In the series, Mrinal is also seen sharing physical space with Satyadeep. When quizzed how it was to be intimate with a man onscreen the actor shares a simple technique, “I just leave who I am as a person, my thoughts, my beliefs and everything that I am in the real-life and become the character. Here, I am a homo person and I just played the character thinking I am him. And that makes everything simple for an actor.”
Giving out a message to the queer mates out there, the actor shares, “I would first like to send some love to all of them. The day when society will openly accept the queerness in each one of us is not far. We’re all one.”
The show is scheduled to stream from April 25 on Alt Balaji and Zee5.
