Khammam: Telangana State has been ignored by the Narendra Modi government in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said on Saturday.

The Centre failed to sanction even 25 km roads in each Assembly constituency in a proper manner. Injustice was done to Khammam in sanction of roads as only 115 km was sanctioned for the district under the scheme, he said.

Though there was a need for thousands of kilometers of roads in rural areas in the State under the scheme and the Central government was neglecting it. But the Union Minister from the State was taking out padayatra falsely claiming that the Centre had developed the state, he complained

Speaking at a seminar organised by Panchayat Raj Department on PMGSY as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav programme here on Saturday, the minister said the Telangana government was giving high priority to expansion of road network as compared to the past.

Ajay Kumar informed that the State government has laid thousands of kilometers of new roads in the last seven years to improve transport facilities for the development of villages. He wanted the engineering officials to keep abreast of the latest developments in laying roads.

Stating that 16 roads and three bridges were under construction the minister asked engineers to prioritize quality standards. He explained that the desired result would not be achieved if quality standards were not followed in the construction of roads and buildings.

As many as 426 roads have been constructed with Granular Sub Base (GSB) technology in Raghunathapalem mandal in Khammam Assembly constituency spending just Rs 2 crore, the minister informed.

Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao also stressed on the need of keeping pace with the changing times and asked engineers to adopt the new technologies that have been emerging from time to time.

Later in the day, Ajay Kumar distributed bicycles to municipal jawans in 60 divisions of Khammam Municipal Corporation and inaugurated a Pattana Prakriti Vanam in 17th division.

ZP Chairman Lingala Kamalraj, MLC, Balasani Lakshminarayana, Panchayati Raj SE Sitaram, EE Chandramouli and others were present.
