Hyderabad: Health Minister, T Harish Rao on Wednesday directed the Health Department to expedite works related to the construction of the eight medical colleges in Mancherial, Ramagundam, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Sangareddy districts.

In a review meeting with MLAs from the eight districts, Collectors, officials from Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC), Roads and Buildings (R&B) and the Health Department, Minister directed them to allocate a senior engineer to oversee the construction activity of the medical colleges.


“The aim of Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao is to ensure healthcare facilities on par with corporate hospitals are available to the poor in government hospitals. These medical colleges will go a long way in improving healthcare facilities in districts,” Harish Rao said.
The medical colleges will be constructed keeping in view the future healthcare needs of the local population. There will be ample scope for taking up massive expansion in the future within the campus of these medical colleges, he said.

Overall, the State government had planned to establish 16 new medical colleges in three phases across Telangana. In the first phase, four medical colleges in Siddipet, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Suryapet have already come up. In the second phase, at present, the State government is establishing eight medical colleges while four medical colleges at Siricilla, Kamareddy, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Vikarabad are planned in the third phase.
