Hyderabad: Entrepreneurs, farmers and experts recommended setting up of bamboo boards at national level and state level and a national Bamboo Policy for promotion of bamboo cultivation extensively across the country.
On the last day of national conference on “Dissemination of innovations in bamboo sector for improving the rural economy” here on Friday, different stakeholders listed out a few recommendations. Experts stressed on the need for a detailed national level study on the issues relating to National Bamboo Mission (NBM) and State Bamboo Missions.
They demanded setting up of Bamboo Cooperatives for promotion in line with agriculture products. Dovetailing of rural development schemes like MGNREGA and NRLM and mainstreaming of bamboo cultivation in government supported schemes was also suggested. It was decided to submit these recommendations to Central Government for examination and consideration.
NIRDPR Director General G Narendra Kumar and Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) Director C Achalender Reddy addressed media persons and said it was decided to create a ‘National Bamboo Network’ jointly by NIRDPR and CIPS for benefit of all the stakeholders associated with bamboo sector. This apart regular workshops would be conducted exclusively for bamboo farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, structural engineers for in depth deliberations and to identify the capacity building and training needs, they added.
