Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush Sarbanand Sonowal inaugurated the mobile container scanner facility and Sagarmala convention hall at the Visakhapatnam port here on Thursday, the concluding day of his two-day visit to the city.
The mobile container scanner was set up by the port to scan the containers for radioactive materials, at a cost of Rs.30 crore, while the Sagarmala convention hall at Salagramapuram for port employees was built at a cost of Rs.25 crore.
Parliament members MVV Satyanarayana (Visakhapatnam), Satyavathi (Anakapalle), and G. Madhavi (Araku), Visakhapatnam zilla parishad chairperson J. Subhadra, and Members of Legislative Councl PVN Madhav and Varudu Kalyani, Visakhapatnam port trust chairman K. Rama Mohana Rao, deputy chairman Durgesh Dubey and others were present.
The Minister also planted a tree as a part of encouraging green initiatives. During this financial year, VPT has spent an amount of Rs.4 crore for 4.5 lakhs of avenue plantation, apart from various other green initiatives.
During his address, the Minister underscored the importance of the Gati Shakti Projects which would ensure removal of all bottlenecks and result in timely completion of the projects since it aims at linking all the sectors like Road, Railways, and Environment.
Highlighting the initiatives taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards Sagarmala Projects, he said that most proposals submitted by Andhra Pradesh were sanctioned and the Centre was always ready to render any assistance for Andhra Pradesh’s development.
