Khammam: A 20 year old youth who was extorting money from the public posing as a policeman was arrested by Kusumanchi police in the district on Friday.
The accused, Guguloth Akhil Naik belongs to Anjanapuram thanda in Morampalli Banjar gram panchayat of Burgampahad mandal in Kothagudem district. In a bid to make easy money, he wore uniforms of police, forest and railway departments and would threaten commuters to collect money, said Inspector of Police (CI) K Sathish.
The police launched a probe into the activities of Akhil Naik following a tip off regarding extortion from sand tractor drivers at Sandhya thanda recently. The accused was arrested at Sivalayam cross roads in Kusumanchi mandal and was remanded, the CI said.
