Kothagudem: Confusion prevailed over the arrest of local MLA Vanama Venkateshwara Rao’s son, Vanama Raghavendra Rao, against whom a case of abetment to suicide was booked at Paloncha police station in the district. While there were rumours of his arrest in Hyderabad, the police did not confirm it.
Raghavendra Rao, also known as Raghava, was named in the suicide note purportedly left by M Naga Ramakrishna, who killed himself after committing familicide at his residence at Old Paloncha on Monday.
The deceased also released a selfie video to that effect, which went viral, followed by demands for immediate arrest of the MLA’s son. Ramakrishna also named his mother Suryavathi and his sister L Madhavi in the letter.
In another development, Vekateshwara Rao said he was pained by the death of Ramakrishna and his family. He also said he was saddened at the charges being made against his son Raghava.
He objected to the efforts by some people to link the incident with TRS and the government. The MLA said he will cooperate with the police for a fair inquiry into the incident and prevent his son from participating in any political activity till the probe is completed.
Meanwhile, BJP cadres staged a protest at the MLA’s residence at Old Paloncha, CPI called for Kothagudem bandh on Friday and CPI (ML) ND burnt an effigy of Raghava demanding his arrest. CPI (ML) ND leader P Ranga Rao wanted Raghava booked under POCSO Act.
