Hyderabad: Four members of a businessman’s family from Nizamabad district committed suicide in Vijayawada on Friday night.

The family members – Suresh, Srilatha and their two sons Ashish and Ahkil came to Vijayawada to visit Sri Kanaka Durga temple and checked into Sri Kanyakaparameswari cottage.

On Saturday, Srilatha and one son were found dead in the cottage. Since they failed to respond when the staff repeatedly knocked on the main door, the employees alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and found them dead.

A few minutes later, the police came to know that Suresh and his son committed suicide by jumping into Krishna River near the temple.

The two bodies that were found in the cottage were shifted to the government hospital for an autopsy, while the police are trying to find out the bodies in the river with the help of expert swimmers.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the family could have ended their lives due to financial problems. When the family came to Vijayawada, the financiers, who gave loans to the family, reportedly seized Suresh’s family.

Unable to face the humiliation, the family could have taken the drastic step, the police said, adding that Suresh forwarded a message before ending their lives. The family owns a petrol filling station and a medical shop, it is learnt.
