Hyderabad: The cricket fans in the city were in for a big disappointment on Sunday when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for this year’s Indian Premier League.

With the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation, BCCI chose only six venues for conducting the cash-rich league and omitted Hyderabad from the list. The city is also the home for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Hyderabad Cricket Association secretary R Vijayanand said, “HCA fraternity and cricket lovers are disappointed. We have already started preparations for the league and have written to the board earlier. We have also got the best pitch award four times in the past and this is one of the best venues in the country.”

Former HCA secretary Shesh Narayan blamed the infighting and corruption in the association for BCCI’s treatment. “It is disappointing because the HCA has failed to implement the Supreme Court approved constitution. They don’t have a CEO, CFO and COO. The elected people are fighting among themselves and the mess in team selection for the Vijay Hazare tourney has dented the association’s credibility. The BCCI has taken a serious note of it. That is why they didn’t consider Hyderabad as a venue,” he said.

Earlier, IT Minister KT Rama Rao had requested the BCCI in a tweet to allot IPL matches to the city. HCA secretary Mohammad Azharuddin also endorsed his tweet and said they are ready to host the IPL matches.
