Karimnagar: It is a classic example of how the farmers are facing troubles to protect standing crops. It is a routine practice for farmers to draw water from agricultural wells with the help of motors and irrigate the fields. Instead of it, ryots are filling agricultural wells with water fetched in tankers and later drawing it to irrigate the fields.

Such bizarre scenes are seen in the district now. The farmers, who sowed crops by depending on wells, are facing troubles to supply water to standing crops as agricultural wells are drying up due to soaring temperature.

While some farmers are opting for removal of silt as well as deepening wells by two to three feet to overcome the problem, small ryots are losing hopes on the crops. For a change, a farmer Bachu Mallaiah is dumping water into the well and later drawing it to irrigate the crops. Since the well had dried up, Mallaiah was following this method to protect crops from withering.

A native of Thadijerri of Gangadhara manal, Mallaiah sowed paddy in three acres after depending the agricultural well. Though he owns eight acres of land, he sowed paddy only in three acres due to lack of water.

However, the well had dried up and to protect the crop, he decided to fill it with the help of a tanker. For this purpose, he took on rent another agricultural well located two kilometers away from his fields and started transporting water with the help of a tanker.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Mallaiah said that since the crop was in a crucial stage, he was bringing water from another well with the help of a tanker and dropping it in his well. Later, drawing it and supplying it to the crop. Every day, 10 to 12 trips of tanker water were being filled in the well during the last seven days. Though he owns a tractor, he hired a well and tanker.
