Farmer held for cultivating ganja in cotton field in Adilabad
A farmer in Adilabad district was arrested for cultivating ganja as an intercrop in his cotton field at Borigaon village. Police seized 128 plants worth Rs 12.5 lakh and a two‑wheeler, while the accused confessed he turned to ganja cultivation after incurring losses in cotton farming.
Adilabad: A farmer was arrested on charges of cultivating ganja as an intercrop in his cotton field at Borigaon village on Wednesday. Police seized 128 ganja plants, valued at Rs 12.50 lakh, and a two-wheeler from the farmer. Ichoda Rural Inspector Ch Ramesh said that Ade Kapil from the village was apprehended for growing the contraband crop in his cotton field cultivated on 3.5 acres of land.
Investigators said that Kapil reportedly confessed to resorting to ganja cultivation after failing to earn profits from cotton farming. He admitted that it was a desperate attempt to make ends meet. He undertook ganja cultivation with his wife, under whose name the land was registered.
A case has been registered against the farmer and further investigations are underway.
