Siddipet: Just four days after performing the marriage of his only daughter Santoshi, a farmer and his son were electrocuted in their maize field at Gangapur village in Chinna Kodur mandal on Sunday.
The victims were identified as M Gajendar Reddy (52) and his son Vijayendar Reddy (26). The duo had laid an electric fence around their field to prevent wild boars from destroying the crop, but accidentally came into contact with the live wires.
Gajendar Reddy, a resident of Chandlapur, also owned farmland in neighbouring Gangapur. As he was busy with his daughter’s marriage on August 14, he had not visited the field for a week. On Sunday, he and his son went to the farm for the first time after the wedding, when tragedy struck.
Vijayendar Reddy, employed at DXN Industries in Siddipet, had taken a fortnight’s leave to attend his sister’s wedding.
The incident has plunged both Gangapur and Chandlapur villages into shock. Gajendar Reddy’s wife Padma was inconsolable, saying she had been left all alone.
