Farmers burn paddy in protest over procurement delays in Kumram Bheem Asifabad
Farmers in Laggama village of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district set their paddy produce on fire protesting delays in procurement and alleged quality deductions. Police and officials intervened, promising to expedite procurement and resolve transportation issues at the earliest.
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Farmers burnt his paddy produce to express anger against delay in procurement of the grains at Laggama village in Dahegaon mandal on Wednesday.
Agitating farmers regretted that their paddy produce was not being procured after completion of months at centres, following shifting of the grains. They said that they were struggling to protect the produce from unseasonal rains and gales. They lamented that no official was coming to their rescue even as they were facing inconvenience to sell the grains.
The growers further said that they were forced to shift the procured produce to mills on their own due to lack of transportation facilities. They stated that officials were imposing deductions citing poor quality of grains causing losses. They reasoned that they were setting the grains on fire protesting against the stance of the government.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. The officials assured that steps would be taken to expedite the process of the procurement, pacifying the farmers. They promised that they would not impose deductions in purchasing the grains. Vehicles were going to be arranged to shifting the transportation of the produce from centres to mills.
