Medak: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Friday said farmers in Medak and Siddipet district can go for early Vanakalam crop since there would be abundant water available with the release of Godavari water through Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme into streams and tanks across these two districts.
“Gone are the days when farmers used to look at the sky from June onwards for a spell of rain to sow paddy seedlings.” Harish Rao said, adding that KLIS had, however, changed that forever. Stating that they can get increased production if they go for early transplantation of paddy, the Minister said they can take up sowing of seedlings in Rohini Karti, which falls in the last week of May.
Talking to farmers after offering prayers to goddesses Ganga at Haldi Project built across Haldi Vagu in Medak district, the Minister said the TRS government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has given a new definition to irrigation projects by making rivers and streams flow during mid-summer.
Following the release of the water into Haldi Vagu at Avusalapally in Wargal Mandal of Siddipet district by the Chief Minister, the Godavari water brought Haldi Vagu, which went dry, to life. Filling all the check dams en route, Haldi Vagu started flowing over the Haldi Project from the early hours of Friday. The project has 2,900 acre of ayacut in Veldurthi and Masaipet Mandals in Medak district.
The water in Haldi Vagu, a tributary of river Manjeera, is expected to flow into Manjeera in a couple of days.
Saying that the release of the water into Haldi will benefit both Narsapur and Medak Assembly Constituencies, Harish Rao has said that the previous governments never built check dams on river Manjeera and other streams here since they were never concerned about the issues of the people in Telangana.
Since the ground water level has been increasing in the district, Rao has said that they will soon recommend the Centre to permit Oil Palm Cultivation.
MP Meadk Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, MLC Sheri Subash Reddy, MLAs Padmadevendar Reddy, C Madan Reddy, , DCCB Chairman Chitti Devendar Reddy and others were present.
