Nirmal: Farmers confronted Khanapur MLA Vedama Bojju, alleging that authorities were delaying paddy purchase at procurement centres. The farmers from Lingapur village staged a rasta-roko on the Nirmal-Mancherial Road near Nachchan Yellapur village in Kadem mandal on Thursday.

The disgruntled farmers found fault with Bojju for failing to take steps to procure paddy grains at the centres. They regretted that the process was not being taken up properly. They stated that grains stored at the centres were damaged by the unseasonal rains. They demanded that the government buy the grains without imposing conditions.

The agitating farmers picked an argument with the legislator. He asked him to bring their plight to the notice of the government. Bojju said that some leaders of the opposition parties were provoking the farmers. He alleged that no farmers were taking part in the protest. He assured them of instructing the officials if the farmers were facing inconvenience.

Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot and pacified the farmers. They advised the farmers to raise a complaint against officials with the Collector to resolve the issue. Accordingly, the farmers withdrew their protest. However, motorists were forced to wait until the farmers left the road.
