Kamareddy: Farmers protested at Nagireddipet mandal demanding that water from Nizamsagar project be released to save the submerged paddy crop in Nizamsagar backwaters at Nagireddipet and Yellareddy mandals of Kamareddy district. The farmers led by Congress leader Vaddepalli Subhash Reddy staged the protest on Hyderabad-Yellareddy highway at Nagireddipet on Saturday. They were demanding that nearly two thousand acres of paddy crop in Yellareddy assembly constituency was submerged and only lifting of gates could save the crop.

As heavy inflows were there from Singuru, Ghanpur, and Pocharam projects, Nizamsagar project was gettin 64,836 cusecs of inflow and officials were releasing water through nine flood gates. But due to maintaining Full Reservoir Level (FRL) nearly 1700 acres crop got submerged in 12 villages of Nagireddipet mandal and another 300 acres crop in Yellareddy mandal.

Subhash Reddy, Congress party Yellareddy Constituency In-charge said that, if irrigation officials did not take action immediately the crops would be damaged.
