Hyderabad: A large number of farmers dumped paddy in front of the house of BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind at Armoor in Nizamabad district on Tuesday morning and registered their protest demanding that the Central government immediately procure paddy from them.
Holding placards, irate farmers raised slogans denouncing the alleged apathetic attitude of the Central government in failing to procure paddy from them. They came to the residence of Arvind and dumped paddy in front of his house.
They stood in front of the main gate and protested against the inordinate delay in procuring paddy from farmers. The farmers said they were facing several problems because of the delay in the procurement process.
Farmers threatened to intensify their agitation if the Centre failed to procure paddy at the earliest. They made it clear to the BJP MP that they would continue their fight on the procurement issue until it was resolved and render justice to them.
The farmers asked Arvind to support them in their ongoing fight on the paddy procurement issue. They also criticized him for failing to take necessary steps to set up a turmeric board in the district. “What happened to the bond papers given to farmers promising to set up the board in the district?” they asked.
“If Arvind fails to set up the board, we will not allow him to move in the district,” they said. On coming to know about the protest organized by farmers, the local police rushed to the premises to prevent any untoward incidents.
