Hyderabad: The State Unit of Congress party welcomed the Central government’s decision to repeal the farm laws and termed it as a victory of the farmers across the country. TPCC president A Revanth Reddy on Friday said it was a historic victory for the farmers in the country. “The relentless fight put up by farmers forced the Central government to step down,” he said.
The Malkajgiri MP said the BJP government had tried to suppress the farmers’ agitation but eventually had to heed to their demands. “This victory of farmers should serve as a motivation to other sectors in fighting the Central government’s anti-people policies,” he further said.
Kisan Congress national vice-president Kodanda Reddy said the farmers had fought vigorously against the farm laws and over 800 farmers had lost their lives during the agitations. The Central government should withdraw all the cases booked against the farmers and announce compensation for them, who suffered losses due to Covid, he demanded.
Later in the day, the TPCC president visited Kamareddy and interacted with farmers at Bikanoor. Speaking on the occasion, he said the State and Central governments were deceiving the farmers. On behalf of the State Congress, farmers’ issues would be taken up in the forthcoming Parliament session, he assured.
