Hyderabad: Continuing with their protests for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday over farmers’ issues, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MPs raised slogans and displayed placards in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Soon after Question Hour commenced in Lok Sabha, TRS MPs led by Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao began raising slogans demanding compensation for families of farmers who lost their lives during the protest against the three farm laws. They also demanded a Bill on Minimum Support Price besides stressing on paddy procurement.
Addressing mediapersons later in New Delhi, TRS MP K Keshava Rao said due to agro-climatic conditions, parboiled rice was produced during Yasangi season across Telangana. A similar situation prevailed in Odisha as well, he said. “Considering the farmers’ welfare, the Centre should procure parboiled rice and end this controversy,” Keshava Rao said, adding that the TRS MPs had boycotted the entire day’s proceedings in Rajya Sabha.
Nama Nageswara Rao said farmers’ issues and paddy procurement was taken up during the all-party meeting on November 28 and the same were raised in the House. “TRS MPs are raising issues in both the Houses but there is no announcement from the Centre. Paddy procurement is the responsibility of the Centre and it should come to the rescue of farmers,” Nageswara Rao said, adding TRS MPs’ voice was being suppressed in both the Houses.
