Farmers staging a protest against the GHMC's move to open a dump yard at Pyaranagar village in the mandal.
Sangareddy: Farmers took up a massive rally in Gummadidala mandal headquarters on Monday opposing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation‘s (GHMC) move to open a dump yard on 152 acres at Pyaranagar village in the mandal.
The farmers of the mandal have come together as the Rythu Ikya Karyacharana Samithi (RIKS) to fight against the dump yard.
Women from across the mandal also joined the rally. The farmers also decided to write 1,000 postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) urging them to intervene in the matter to stop the work on the dump yard immediately.
However, the GHMC officials continued their work roping in hundreds of men and vehicles. They were busy laying a road to the proposed dump yard site while dozens of police personnel were deployed to keep the protestors away from the work site.
Meanwhile, the Pyaranagar and Nallavalli villagers also formed a separate JAC to stage protests in their respective villages. The farmers said they would not relent until GHMC stop the work.
