Hyderabad: On May 12, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had directed District Collectors to complete paddy and maize procurement on a mission mode. It has been a fortnight since he issued these instructions. Yet, farmers, especially those cultivating maize, continue to stage protests across the State over the delay in procurement.

One such protest was staged in Taduru mandal of Nagarkurnool district on Monday morning. Unmindful of the scorching heat, the farmers carried their stocks in tractors and squatted on the Indrakal road. Tractors and trucks were lined up for nearly one km on both sides of the road.

Farmers demanded that the government procure their stocks immediately. Due to the protest, traffic movement was disrupted in the region. Despite officials and locals appealing to the farmers to call off their protest, they did not relent.

The farmers alleged that they had been waiting for officials to procure their stocks for the last 10 days. Despite repeated appeals, the officials had not procured the stocks, they complained.

“The officials informed us that the warehouse was full to capacity and directed us to visit another warehouse. However, the storage space at that warehouse was also almost full. We are being made to run from pillar to post to sell our stocks,” farmers said, according to reports.
