Farmers protest unscheduled power cuts across Siddipet

Siddipet: Farmers staged protests at multiple places across Siddipet district over unscheduled power cuts to the farming sector on Friday. The farmers staged dharnas at the Kammarpally and Vittalapur substations in Chinna Kodur mandal.

Demanding 24-hour power supply, the farmers set an effigy of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on fire, accusing him of denying farmers round-the-clock power. Tension prevailed for a while at Kammarpally as police tried to confiscate the burning effigy.

Farmers from Raghavapur also staged a rasta-roko by burning tyres in the middle of the road. They said their crops were drying up due to the lack of power supply. Traffic on the Siddipet-Mustabad road came to a halt for two hours as the protesters blocked the road.

Former Siddipet Urban Development Authority (SUDA) chairman Mareddy Ravindar Reddy, Siddipet district sarpanches forum president Pula Balakrishna Reddy and others participated in the protest. The sarpanches boycotted the mandal parishad general body meeting in Nanganur over the unscheduled power cuts.

Farmers at the Narayanraopet mandal headquarters also staged a protest. Villagers from Akkenapally also blocked the road at Rampur junction as part of a rasta-roko. Similar protests were organised across the district over the unscheduled power cuts.
