Farmers stage protest at Ryalamadugu sub-station over power cuts
Farmers from Nizampet mandal protested at Ryalamadugu sub-station, demanding uninterrupted power supply to save standing paddy crops. They said power supply was limited to about eight hours and sought 24-hour supply for a month, citing fluctuations that were damaging pumpsets and transformers
Farmers staged rasta-roko near Ryalamadugu sub-station in Nizampet mandal of Sangareddy district over power cuts on Thursday
Sangareddy: Farmers from different villages of Nizampet mandal staged a protest at the Ryalamadugu sub-station on Thursday, demanding that the government supply adequate power to the agriculture sector to save standing crops.
The agitating farmers said they were being supplied barely eight hours of power to the farm sector during the season. As the Vanakalam paddy crop would be harvested in a month, the farmers urged the government to supply at least 24-hour power to the agriculture sector for the next one month so that they could harvest their crops.
Farmers said serious fluctuations in power supply were causing borewell pumpsets and transformers to burn out at several places, resulting in crops drying up.
BRS workers, who joined the protest, accused Narayankhed Congress MLA Patlolla Sanjeeva Reddy of turning a deaf ear to the farmers’ issues. They alleged that despite farmers struggling due to inadequate power supply, the Congress MLA had not made any attempt to save the crops.
Farmers and BRS leaders organised similar protests across the erstwhile Medak district over power cuts on Thursday. Farmers staged a rasta-roko at the Raipole mandal headquarters in Siddipet district. They raised slogans against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that the government had failed to ensure 24-hour power supply to the farm sector.
