Nalgonda: Congress leaders on Monday staged protest demonstration and burnt the effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath following the detention of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi by the police while she was on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri district to console the family members of farmers who died in yesterday’s violence.
About 100 Congress workers headed by Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy staged protest demonstration and burnt the UP Chief Minister’s effigy at Clock tower centre here, and raised slogans against the BJP government at the Centre and in UP.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said farmers have no freedom to protest on their issues in the country since the Centre has been using police force to muzzle their voice. “The Centre brought new farm laws that were against the interest of farmers. The Narendra Modi government has been insensitive to the months-long protests of farmers demanding withdrawal of the new farm laws,” he said, adding that he will raise issues of farmers in Lok sabha.
Condemning the police high-handedness against Priyanka Gandhi, Venkat Reddy said that Minimum Support Price (MSP) was denied to farmers because of the new farm laws. “Farmers will soon teach a lesson to the BJP with their vote power,” he cautioned, adding that the Congress will stand by the farmers in their fight against the anti-farmers’ laws.
