Hyderabad: Highlighting financial crisis in private higher educational institutions due to non-release of fee reimbursement and scholarships dues, the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) on Tuesday demanded the government immediately release 50 percent of the dues.
In a representation submitted to Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, FATHI chairman Dr. N Ramesh Babu and secretary general KS Ravi Kumar said fee arrears was seriously affecting financial stability of colleges, livelihoods of teaching and non-teaching employees, and the education, employment and future prospects of lakhs of students.
They said institutions have incurred expenditure towards faculty and staff salaries, laboratories, libraries, software, electricity, maintenance, examinations, student-support services, university affiliation fees, inspection charges and statutory requirements.
“Despite fulfilling all these responsibilities, institutions have been waiting for their legitimate dues for several years. They cannot be expected to finance the government’s welfare commitment indefinitely through borrowings, unpaid liabilities and internal adjustments,” they said.
FATHI treasurer K Krishna Rao and organising secretary Dr. K Sunil Kumar wanted all fee reimbursement amounts relating to passed-out students be deposited directly into respective institutions accounts after student-wise verification and reconciliation.
